Mamelodi Sundowns unveil Bafana defender Khulumani Ndamane

Mamelodi Sundowns have made another major statement of intent in the South African transfer market, officially unveiling Bafana Bafana defender Khulumani Ndamane as their latest marquee signing.

The 21-year-old centre-back joins the defending champions from TS Galaxy, ending a protracted transfer saga that has dominated headlines since the start of the season. His arrival marks a busy Monday for the “Brazilians,” coming just hours after the club announced the signing of Colombian forward Brayan León.

A Rise Fueled by Resilience: Khulumani Ndamane

Ndamane’s journey to the “Home of Champions” is one of the most remarkable stories in recent PSL history. Just over two years ago, he was part of a group of youth players released by Kaizer Chiefs after famously refusing to act as ball retrievers during a cup fixture.

While many wondered if his career would stall, Ndamane reinvented himself at TS Galaxy. Joining the “Rockets” in July 2024, he quickly established himself as a premier defender, combining physical dominance with a modern ability to play out from the back. His 27 appearances last season turned him into a household name and earned him the trust of national team coach Hugo Broos.

Despite his age, Ndamane arrives at Chloorkop with significant international experience. He was a key pillar in the Bafana Bafana squad that successfully qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and was a member of the final 25-man squad for the ongoing AFCON 2025 in Morocco.

Although South Africa’s continental journey ended in the Round of 16 against Cameroon on January 4, Ndamane’s stock remained high, prompting Sundowns to trigger the move as they look to overhaul their defensive department.

The acquisition of Ndamane is a clear strategic move by Sundowns to bridge the two-point gap between them and log-leaders Orlando Pirates. While the “Bucaneers” have been in fine form, the addition of Ndamane provides Sundowns with a young, mobile defender capable of handling the high defensive line preferred by the technical team.

In an official statement, the club expressed their excitement: “Khulumani Ndamane has officially joined the Yellow Nation. Welcome to the Home of the Champions. We believe his addition will add quality and a winning mentality to our backline.”

What’s Next For Khulumani Ndamane

Ndamane leaves a TS Galaxy side currently sitting in eighth position to join a championship-chasing environment. He is expected to begin training immediately and could be in line for his debut on Tuesday, January 20, when Sundowns face Orbit College FC in the Betway Premiership.

With the January window closing soon, the “Brazilians” have now addressed their needs in attack (León), the wings (Saleng), and defence (Ndamane), making them the clear favourites to dominate the second half of the campaign.
