
New Nigeria national team head coach Éric Chelle has wasted no time in promising skeptical Super Eagles supporters attacking football when he takes charge.
Chelle made the promise soon after being unveiled at MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Monday, January 13, 2025.
“Football is about scoring goals so I favour an attacking style. I know the expectations of Nigerians and I will settle down and work diligently with assistants towards the goal of qualifying the Super Eagles for the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” he is quoted saying by Sportsvillagesquare.com.
Chelle, capped five times with Mali during his playing days, has been tasked with ensuring the Super Eagles land at the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals without fail. The former GS Consolat, FC Martigues, Boulogne, MC Oran and Mali national team coach promised to hit the ground running when the World Cup qualifiers get in motion this March.
The 47-year-old was a notable figure at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cote d’Ivoire where he guided Mali to the quarterfinal with the hosts’ extra-time goal denying his charges a semifinal dance.
As a player, he spent a great deal of his career in France where he moved as a child featuring for clubs such as for Martigues, Valenciennes, Lens, Istres and Chamois Niortais.
