Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been awarded Professional Football Association (PFA) Community Champion for the 2024/25 season.

The announcement was made by Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, celebrating Awoniyi’s unwavering dedication to supporting local communities throughout the year.

This comes despite a season plagued by injuries and limited playing time, including a recent life-threatening incident on filed accident against Leicester City, Awoniyi consistently made time to give back.

Awoniyi’s commitment to community development was evident through various initiatives. Notably, in March, he personally funded and attended a community Iftar event during Ramadan at Himmah’s Hub in Hyson Green, Nottingham.

This inclusive gathering brought together 70 people from diverse backgrounds, providing hot meals and fostering a sense of unity. The Nigerian striker also participated in other local community programs, including visiting Premier League Kicks sessions.

The PFA Community Champion award is presented annually to players who contributed immensely to community development. The 27-year-old has established himself as a role model both on and off the field. Awoniyi is the first Nigerian player to receive the award.
