Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has called up Nigeria's most capped player and Kano Pillars captain Ahmed Musa for the upcoming Unity Cup tournament in London, from May 27 to 31.
The confirmation came via the official Kano Pillars FC X account on Monday night, May 5, congratulating the 2013 African Cup of Nations winner.
“Captain Ahmed Musa is set to lead the Super Eagles at the Unity Cup 4-Nations Tourney from May 26–31, 2025, at Brentford Stadium, London. Congrats, Skippo!"
Musa, who was named captain of the Super Eagles after Mikel John Obi's retirement from the national team in July 2019, has been crucial for Sai Masu Gida in the ongoing 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, scoring eight goals and providing two assists.
The former Leicester City forward was initially called up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March, but did not make the final 25-man list.
Musa's last appearance for the Super Eagles was in a pre-AFCON 2023 friendly match against Guinea on January 8, 2024, when he came on as a substitute and played for only seven minutes. He was part of the Super Eagles squad at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Ivory Coast, but did not feature in any of the matches during Nigeria's silver-winning campaign.
Since his debut in 2010, Musa has earned 110 caps for the Super Eagles, scoring 18 goals.
The Unity Cup will also feature the Black Stars of Ghana, the Reggae Boyz of Jamaica and the Soca Warriors of Trinidad and Tobago.
Nigeria will kick off their campaign against long-time rivals Ghana on Tuesday, May 27, at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford.
