Experienced Nigeria national team forward Ahmed Musa has admitted that the Super Eagles performance has been disappointing in recent times.

The three-time African champions will partake in the 2025 Unity Cup, a four nation tournament that includes Ghana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago at the Gtech Community Stadium in London.

The Super Eagles’ opener is against rivals Ghana on Wednesday, May 28 with the winner facing the victor between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago on May 30.

Musa said: "Yeah, we know that a lot of Nigerians are, I would say, very disappointed in the Super Eagles,” Musa told the Super Eagles media team in London.

"But I will always call on them to just keep on supporting us because that is what we need right now. Their support will make a very big impact for us."

The 32-year-old forward, who currently plays for Kano Pillars in the Nigeria Premier Football League, is making a return to the national team after an absence.

"Yeah, for me, I'm always happy whenever I get a call-up,” he said.

“So for me, I'm very happy to be back. It has been a long time but I don't think there's any difference. We just wait and see on the day of the game what is going to happen.”

The Unity Cup encounter against Ghana’s Black Stars will serve as a key test for Nigeria under new head coach Eric Chelle. Nigeria will face Rwanda and South Africa in September for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. They currently sit fourth in the qualifiers with seven points, one behind Benin and Rwanda with South Africa leading with 13 points.
