Ahead of their double-header friendlies against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon, Nigeria’s Super Falcons are set to arrive in Yaoundé on Wednesday.
Both teams are fine-tuning their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which kicks off in Morocco next month.
Head coach Justin Madugu, alongside Anderline Mgbechi, Fatima Oloko, and other backroom staff members, will fly out of Abuja to the Cameroonian capital. They will be joined in Yaoundé by the team’s foreign-based players.
The Super Falcons will face Cameroon in the first friendly this Saturday, while the second encounter is slated for next Tuesday.
Nigeria has been drawn into Group C alongside Zambia, Egypt, and tournament debutants Malawi.
Meanwhile, Cameroon—who began their training camp last week—will compete in Group D against Ghana, Mali, and Cape Verde.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons are scheduled to arrive in Yaoundé on Wednesday ahead of their highly anticipated double-header international friendlies against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon.
The two matches form a crucial part of the Super Falcons’ preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which will kick off in Morocco next month. With the continental showpiece fast approaching, the Super Falcons are intensifying their build-up to ensure they are in peak condition for the tournament.
Head coach Justin Madugu will lead the delegation departing from Abuja to the Cameroonian capital. He will be accompanied by key technical crew members including Anderline Mgbechi and Fatima Oloko, as well as other backroom staff. The foreign-based players are expected to link up with the squad directly in Yaoundé.
The upcoming fixtures between the Super Falcons and Cameroon promise to be competitive encounters. The first friendly is scheduled for this Saturday, while the second match will take place next Tuesday.
Facing Cameroon presents a valuable test for the Super Falcons, as the Indomitable Lionesses are one of Africa’s traditional powerhouses in women’s football. Matches between the two sides have historically been intense and fiercely contested.
For Nigeria, these friendlies provide an opportunity to assess tactical combinations, squad depth, and match fitness ahead of WAFCON 2026. Coach Madugu is expected to rotate his squad across both games to evaluate different systems and player partnerships.
The Super Falcons have been drawn into a competitive Group C at WAFCON 2026 alongside:
Zambia
Egypt
Malawi (tournament debutants)
Group C is widely regarded as one of the toughest groups in the tournament. Zambia, led by a core of Europe-based stars, remain one of the fastest-rising teams on the continent. Egypt continues to develop steadily, while Malawi will be eager to make a strong impression in their debut appearance.
For the Super Falcons, early preparation and strong friendly performances against Cameroon could provide a vital psychological edge heading into the group stage.
Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses began their training camp last week as they also intensify preparations for WAFCON 2026. The Lionesses will compete in Group D, where they face:
Ghana
Mali
Cape Verde
Hosting the Super Falcons offers Cameroon a chance to test their squad against Africa’s most decorated women’s national team. Nigeria’s pedigree and tournament experience make them the benchmark for continental excellence.
The friendlies in Yaoundé will therefore serve as a high-quality rehearsal for both nations before they head to Morocco.
The Super Falcons remain Africa’s most successful women’s national team, with a record number of WAFCON titles. However, the competition has grown increasingly competitive over the years, with nations like South Africa and Zambia closing the gap.
These matches against Cameroon will allow the Super Falcons to:
Build match sharpness
Strengthen defensive organization
Improve attacking coordination
Integrate foreign-based players into the system
With foreign-based stars joining the squad in Yaoundé, the technical team will focus on blending experience with emerging talent. The goal is to create a balanced squad capable of navigating the challenges of WAFCON 2026.
