Super Falcons' friendly match against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon is now single-leg international women's friendly. With the highly anticipated match will now take place on Monday, June 2, at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta.
Originally, a two-match series was planned, with games set to take place in Ikenne and Abeokuta, the series has now been shortened to a single match due to logistical delays that affected the Cameroonian team's arrival.
The Indomitable Lionesses delegation, consisting of 24 players from both international clubs and the domestic Guinness Super League, is expected to arrive in Lagos on Saturday. They had been delayed due to finalized travel arrangements, and upon arrival, they will head directly to their base in Ijebu-Ode.
The Cameroonian Football Federation successfully resolved its internal administrative issues, ensuring the team's participation in the upcoming match. This resolution paves the way for a highly anticipated renewal of a storied rivalry in African women's football.
Nigeria boasts a dominant historical record against Cameroon, having secured 14 wins out of 20 encounters. Cameroon has managed three victories, with the remaining three matches ending in draws.
The Super Falcons have been particularly strong in recent years, winning eight of their last eleven meetings, a run that includes crucial victories in Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) finals and Olympic qualifiers.
Despite the adjustment, the friendly remains a key part of Nigeria’s build-up to the 2024 WAFCON in Morocco, where the Super Falcons will be aiming for a record-extending 10th continental title in their 13th consecutive tournament appearance.
