Süper Lig: Dorgeles Nene hat-trick powers Fenerbahçe to victory

Mali national team star Dorgeles Nene enjoyed his best match yet for Turkish Süper Lig title contenders Fenerbahçe on Tuesday with a hat-trick in their 4-1 victory over Gaziantep.

The pacey forward opened the scoring close to halftime before adding two more goals in the second half. Alexandru Maxim responded for the visitors with a penalty kick early in the second half but N’Golo Kanté restored the hosts’ advantage before the hour mark.

From then on it was the Nene show. In the 68th minute, Fener counter-attacked efficiently and Mateo Guendouzi’s pass from the midfield was perfect for Nene, allowing the Malian to use his sprinting abilities to break away from the defense and finish past Gaziantep goalkeeper Mustafa Bozan.

The hat-trick was complete in the 79th minute. In very similar circumstances to his second goal, Nene was played in by Marco Asensio this time to get behind the defense and finish in another 1-v-1 situation with Bozan.

The Malian has needed some time to adapt to the increased expectations at the Istanbul giants since joining from Red Bull Salzburg at the beginning of the current campaign. However, he is gradually improving and showing signs of development with 9 goals and 5 assists from 33 matches in all competitions.

The result marks a successful return to winning form for Fenerbahçe after a surprise defeat at Fatih Karagümrük on Friday. They are four points back of rivals and league leaders Galatasaray, with Trabzonspor on their backs in a battle for second place.
