Süper Lig: Mohamed Bayo stars in Gaziantep’s thrashing of hosts Antalyaspor

Mohamed Bayo’s career resurrection is well in progress at Gaziantep in the Turkish Süper Lig, where the Guinean provided two goals and an assist in the club’s 4-1 victory at Antalyaspor on Friday.

The forward, on loan from French Ligue 1 club Lille, nearly opened the scoring in first half stoppage time when his shot was saved but eventually got his first goal just before the hour mark. An Alexandru Maxim corner kick was flicked off the far post by Kacper Kozłowski where Bayo was waiting to apply the final touch.

Kozłowski then doubled the lead just over five minutes later and the rout was on in favor of the visitors. Bayo then rounded Antalyaspor goalkeeper Julian to complete his double before setting up Drissa Camara to make it 4-0.

The 27-year-old established himself as a potential future star at Clermont before a big money transfer to Lille led to off the pitch issues and loss of form. Ever since the 2022-23 season he has mostly been on loan with mixed success at Le Havre and Royal Antwerp before arriving in Turkey.

Now he has 12 goals, good for fifth among top scorers, to go along with 3 assists. Gaziantep move up to 8th place on the league table with the result and will next travel to face Fenerbahçe on Wednesday.
