Head coach Manqoba Mngqithi's Golden Arrows team did not make it easy for Orlando Pirates on Tuesday in Durban but the Buccaneers shot to victory courtesy of Tshegofatso Mabasa's 73rd minute strike.
After a strong first half performance, hosts Arrows fell behind to Patrick Maswanganyi's early second half goal. The attacker popularly known as "Tito" ran onto a Kabelo Dlamini through pass and rounded Arrows keeper Edward Maova to finish into an empty net.
Promising Arrows midfielder Siyanda Mthanti restored parity close to the hour mark for the hosts with a powerful finish but it was Mabasa who won it for the Bucs ten minutes after coming on as a substitute.
Pirates maintain their chase of leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, remaining nine points back with one match in hand. A nightmare run of form for Arrows now has them drop further into the relegation dogfight following their third consecutive defeat.
