Kwara United goalkeeper Suraj Ayeleso has admitted that the team were not under pressure heading into the final of the Nigeria’s President Federation Cup against second tier side Abakaliki FC.
Ayeleso confirmed this after Kwara United won their maiden President Federation Cup, beating Abakaliki FC 4-2 in a penalty shootout following a scoreless draw.
Speaking after the game, the Kwara goalie applauded his opponent but said they never panicked as they were confident in themselves.
“Abakaliki FC showed why they got this far with what they displayed against us today but we came prepared as we gave zero margin for errors. We created the best chance of the game but you must praise the resilience of our opponents and during the shootouts, we never panicked because we all believe in our abilities when it comes to the shootouts.”
He was also filled with gratitude for the achievement which he had gotten with the team and in his career.
“I think to have achieved this feat, it could be anyone, let’s just say I am a lucky person and give God the Glory, it’s a thing of joy and I’ll forever be grateful for achieving these heights,” the University of Ilorin graduate concluded.
Kwara United’s first President Federation Cup trophy qualifies them for the 2025-26 CAF Confederation Cup next season.
