Swiss Super League side FC Zürich announced the contract termination of Ghanaian forward Daniel Afriyie by mutual consent.

Afriyie officially joined Swiss side Zürich in January 2023, for an undisclosed fee, signing a contract until June 2026 with the club but will be leaving after two-and-a-half years. The 24-year-old's registration was set to be completed after his participation in the 2022 African Nations Championship in Algeria.

A statement from the club read: “FC Zürich announces that Ghanaian striker Daniel Afriyie is leaving the city-based club. His contract has been terminated by mutual consent.

“Daniel Afriyie came to Zürich from his native Ghana in January 2023. In his two and a half years at FC Zürich, he made 50 competitive appearances for the first team, scoring two goals and providing four assists."

“FC Zürich thanks Daniel Afriyie for his commitment and wishes him all the best for the future!”

Afriyie had a glittering career with Ghana giants Hearts of Oak, leading them to five trophies – the Premier League, two FA Cups, one Super Cup and the President’s Cup while producing 13 goals and 4 assists in 69 appearances in the Ghana Premier League and CAF club competition. He previously played for Burkinabe club Rahimo FC, winning the domestic league with them in the 2018-19 season.

He was the captain when Ghana won the WAFU U-20 Zone B tournament and the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament hosted by Mauritania in 2021.
