English Premier League side Nottingham Forest has confirmed its final 22 man squad for the Europa League, and Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been left off the list.
Forest submitted its official player list to UEFA on Wednesday, revealing the notable exclusion of the Nigerian international. The decision by manager Nuno Espírito Santo to omit the 27-year-old forward is a significant blow to Awoniyi, who was expected to be a key figure in the club’s European campaign.
However, Awoniyi’s team-mate and fellow Nigerian Ola Aina was included in the squad. The omission of Awoniyi is particularly surprising given his recent return from injury and his importance to the team’s attack.
Other players who made the cut include Chris Wood,Neco Williams, Morgan Gibbs-White, Douglas Luizand Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Nottingham Forest secured its spot in the EuropaLeague league phase after a successful domestic campaign, and the club is set to face a challenging group of opponents.
The premier League side will play Midtjylland, FCPorto, Malmo, Ferenvaros, Braga, Utrecht, Sturm Grazand Real Betis in the league phase.
