Morocco international Chemsdine Talbi handed newly promoted English Premier League side Sunderland a memorable 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Talbi struck at the death as the Black Cats temporarily sit second after a magnificent start to the new season in the top flight.
The Blues took the lead early, with Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho scoring just four minutes into the game. A solid defensive display from the visitors troubled Chelsea, and they restored parity through Wilson Isidor’s goal in the 22nd minute as the half ended in a 1-1 draw.
Chelsea applied pressure to take home all three points in the second half, but Régis Le Bris’ side defended heroically for much of the interval. Talbi, 20, replaced Burkinabé winger Bertrand Traoré in the 65th minute and ended Chelsea’s fine run in all competitions as he struck in the 93rd minute. A counterattack by Sunderland helped Talbi slot home a curler after collecting a pass from Brian Brobbey, who did superbly to hold off two Chelsea defenders inside the box.
