Tawanda Maswanhise continues remarkable form for Motherwell after brace

Zimbabwe international Tawanda Maswanhise continued with his remarkable form in the Scottish Premiership after he grabbed a brace to help Motherwell defeated Livingston 2-0 in a fixture played at Fir Park on Saturday.

Maswanhise needed only five minutes to open the account and keep his scoring run going. Elijah Just created space in the right flank before floating a delivery into the Livingston penalty area, and Maswanhise coolly diverted his header past Jerome Prior, wrong-footing the Frenchman for the opener.

The game remained balanced until in the 28th minute when Maswanhise doubled the scoreline to propel himself to the top of the Scottish Premiership goalscoring table.

Maswanhise calmly picked his spot before curling an excellent finish past Prior after a good delivery from Callum Slattery to earn the Steelmen all three points in Livingston.

‘We don’t have plan to sell him now’

Speaking after the game, Mothewell coach Jens Berthel Askou dismissed transfer rumours linking Maswanhise to Scottish giants Celtic.

“No. JT’s goals are going to add value to him, the team and the club. We have a game on Wednesday (against Dundee) and the business we plan to do doesn’t really involve him,” Askou said as quoted by Daily Record.

“I never said he wasn’t for sale, but I said we don’t have a plan to sell him now. That’s the plan we are following.

“Eventually, he is for sale, it’s just not now. He is adding value and he would love to be the Premiership’s top scorer. The best opportunity for him to do that is by staying with us until the summer, and then we will see what happens then.”

He concluded: “Eventually we will say the same about Maswanhise and the club who sign him – but that’s not now. We will see how big an amount that is but he’s adding value and that’s good for the Scottish market that the fees are good.”

The Zimbabwe international is now the league’s top scorer with 13 goals.
