Tawanda Maswanhise: Zimbabwe star nominated for top award in Scotland

Zimbabwean striker Tawanda Maswanhise has been nominated for the Scottish Premiership player of the month award for January 2026.

The Warriors’ star has earned the nomination for the G4 Claims Player of the Month following his stellar performances for Motherwell FC in Scotland.

Maswanhise, who earned a similar accolade last November, has been shortlisted for the accolade alongside teammates Elijah Just, Lukas Fadinger and Paul McGinn.

A statement from the Scottish Premiership side has since announced the full list of the nominees while urging the fans to vote for their favourites via the club’s social media platforms.

“Tawanda Maswanhise, Elijah Just, Lukas Fadinger and Paul McGinn are all up for nomination in a month where the Steelmen won four out of five and kept four clean sheets,” reads part of the statement.

“Maswanhise makes a serious claim for your vote, scoring in every game – six goals from five games. Elijah Just also had attacking returns, with three assists and one goal.

“Lukas Fadinger registered his third goal in claret and amber, and provided the assist in the win over Ross County. His defensive contributions also led to four clean sheets, which is why the captain Paul McGinn also stakes a claim for your vote.”

Another player for Motherwell, Elliot Watt, earned the accolade in December 2025.

The 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) discovery has been attracting interest from teams such as Blackburn Rovers FC of England and Belgian side Anderlecht.

Maswanhise’s red-hot form

Maswanhise is now the Scottish Premiership’s top scorer with 13 goals.

The Warriors forward has maintained a rich vein of form, scoring in every game for his club until last Saturday when his brace helped Motherwell to a 2-0 victory over Livingston FC.
