ES Troyes AC returned to the top of Ligue 2 on Monday night after a 2-0 victory away to Amiens SC, moving two points clear of AS Saint-Étienne in the title race.
Despite the final scoreline, it was Amiens who started brighter. Struggling in 16th place, the hosts created the better opportunities in the first half, with Nordine Kandil twice going close (17’, 41’) and Samuel Ntamack testing the Troyes defense in the 23rd minute. Despite the pressure, Troyes headed into the break level at 0-0.
The visitors emerged from the dressing room with renewed intensity, and their response was decisive. The breakthrough came in the 52nd minute when Kandet Diawara punished a poor ball from Skelly Alvero, curling a strike into the net from the edge of the area.
Just eight minutes later, the league’s top scorer Moroccan striker Tawfik Bentayeb doubled the advantage with his 13th goal of the season. The striker slotted past Paul Bernardoni after an assist from Martin Adeline, sealing the contest in less than nine minutes.
Amiens pushed late on and pulled one back in stoppage time through Ilyes Hamache, but their efforts proved insufficient to get a point.
The win represents a major step forward for Troyes in their promotion push, while Amiens remain stuck in the relegation play-off position (16th).
