Temwa Chawinga has featured for Kansas City in one league match since her return from injury and excused herself from Malawi’s squad that is participating in FIFA Series in Kenya.
Earlier, Palmeiras scored an own goal before the hosts’ forward Haley Hopkins registered a first-half hat trick. Amelia White added her name on the scoresheet. The Scorchers forward completed the rout for the NWSL giants before she was substituted in the 46th minute.
Forward Bia Zaneratto scored the consolation goal for the visitors before Kansas City were presented the 2026 Teal Rising Cup for the second consecutive season.
In another match played at the same venue earlier, Brazil’s Corinthians crushed Mexican side Club América, 8-0 to seal third place.
Kansas City will now return to NWSL regular season action to face Washington Spirit on Friday, April 24.
