Malawian goal-scoring machine Temwa Chawinga found her scoring boots again. The striker ended her mini dry spell for Kansas City Current, as they romped to a 4-1 victory over Bay FC on Sunday, May 11, 2025.
The Malawian outshone fellow Africans—Nigerian forward Asisat Oshoala and Zambian counterpart Rachel Kundananji, who featured for Bay FC with minimal impact.
Chawinga netted Kansas City Current’s fourth goal as they got back on track in the United States’ National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) match before CPKC Stadium’s sell-out crowd.
Striker Bia Zaneratto had opened the scoring barely three minutes into the game before midfielder Debinha chalked a first-half double, including a 38th-minute free-kick. The Malawian completed the job in the 62nd minute.
Bay FC had reduced the margin after pulling one back in the 53rd minute with Penelope Hocking’s goal before Chawinga killed off the contest.
Kansas City Current lead the 16-member table after eight rounds of games, two points ahead of Orlando Pride, while Bay FC is third from the bottom.
