Temwa Chawinga strikes again for NWSL leaders Kansas City Current

Malawi women’s football star Temwa Chawinga was on target for Kansas City Current FC in their away 2-0 victory over Racing Louisville FC in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) match in America on Friday.

The Scorchers forward broke the deadlock in the 65th minute. She arrived in the box and threw herself to the ground to sweep a ball, whipped from the right, across the goal line at the end of a blistering attack.

Seven minutes later, the NWSL leaders made sure of the victory at Lynn Family Stadium. Elizabeth Ball scored the second goal to deflate the hosts who sit in seventh place, 16 points behind City Current FC.

Chawinga took her season’s tally to nine goals, one behind NWSL’s leading scorer Esther González.

City Current top the NWSL standings with 36 points from 14 matches, 11 points ahead of Orlando Pride FC.
