Kansas City Current’s Malawian striker Temwa Chawinga has retained the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL)’s Golden Boot Award in America.

The Scorchers star finished the season with 15 goals and three assists in 23 games, shrugging off competition from Gotham FC’s Esther González by two goals and two assists.

The Malawian first won the accolade in her debut season with Current in 2024 when she signed from Wuhan University FC.

Chawinga has since closed in on the record of Sam Kerr who won the NWSL award in three straight seasons from 2017 to 2019, a feat that has stood for 13 years.

Which other records has Temwa Chawinga broken?

The Scorchers striker became the fastest player to score 25 regular season goals in six fewer games than any other player in her 34th appearance.

Chawinga is set to help Current when they compete in the 2025 NWSL Playoffs.

The Malawian set new records after also becoming the first player in NWSL history to score in six straight regular season road matches.
