The ongoing tensions between Al Ahly and their striker Wessam Abou Ali have taken a new turn, as the club decided to exclude the player from the team’s pre-season training camp in Tunisia.
Al Ahly’s Sporting Director, Mohamed Youssef, made the decision in coordination with head coach José Riveiro. The Tunisian camp is scheduled to run from July 18 to 26, but Wissam will not be part of the traveling squad.
The decision comes after Wessam failed to attend scheduled medical examinations, physical assessments, and imaging tests. Additionally, the player has reportedly missed training sessions and treatment appointments without obtaining prior permission.
The strained relationship between the player and the club has been brewing in recent days, fueled by Wessam’s desire to move abroad. Abou Ali is keen on securing a move to MLS side Columbus Crew, but Al Ahly rejected the initial offer and demanded an improved financial package.
The 26-year-old striker joined Al Ahly in January 2024 and made an immediate impact. Despite arriving during the season, he finished as the Egyptian Premier League’s top scorer with 18 goals.
This season, Abou Ali has continued his outstanding form, recording 19 goals and 4 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.
One of his standout performances came during the third round of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 group stage, when he scored a brilliant hat-trick in a thrilling 4-4 draw against FC Porto.
