Terem Moffi scores first goal in Portugal to finish off FC Porto win

Terem Moffi came off the bench to complete FC Porto’s 3-1 victory over Arouca on Friday, keeping Os Dragões four points ahead of title rivals and defending champions Sporting CP.

The joy was clear to see on the Nigerian striker’s face and in his celebration after enduring a difficult period at FC Lorient before moving on loan to the Portuguese giants. Deep into second half stoppage time, Moffi arrived with a sliding finish from William Gomes’ cross to finish off three points for the hosts at the Estádio do Dragão.

Polish wunderkind Oskar Pietuszewski gave the hosts the lead inside the opening minute but after Naïs Djouahra equalized in the second half for Arouca, it set up a tense final half hour.

Gomes, eventually awarded with Man of the Match honors, stayed calm to convert a penalty kick in the opening minute of stoppage time before Moffi added an insurance goal in the eighth minute of added time.

Moffi spent over two months out of action after enduring racist attacks from supporters of parent club FC Lorient, after which the club gave him extended time away from action. A transfer was always on the cards and the Nigerian received his wish, at least temporarily with a loan move. Friday’s goal marked his first in three substitute appearances.
