Following Young Africa’s (Yanga SC) formal complaint to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) over the running of activities at the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB), TFF have cracked the whip by terminating the services of TPLB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Almasi Kasongo with immediate effect.

On June 9, 2025, the Mainland Premier League champions stood firm on their decision not to participate in the upcoming Kariakoo derby against rivals Simba SC - unless their unresolved demands are addressed.

Part of the demands lodged by Yanga included the resignation of Almasi Kasongo and that of the chairman of TPLB Steven Mnguto. In a swift response, TFF in a signed statement have confirmed having received the resignation of Mnguto but went further to confirm the immediate termination of services for Kasongo from all football-related activities.

Letter from TFF confirming Mnguto resignation, Kasongo termination.

“The chairman of TPLB Steven (Mnguto) has tendered his resignation from the position,” read part of the letter from TFF signed by secretary general Kidao Wilfred and seen by Pan-Africa Football. “In another decision, TFF President Wallace Karia has terminated the services of TPLB CEO Almasi (Kasongo).”

Yanga made the demands during a closed-door meeting held at the TPLB headquarters located at NSSF Mafao House in Ilala, Dar es Salaam, which lasted for over two hours, beginning at 10:30 a.m. and ending at 12:53 p.m.

The meeting was convened to address the contentious Mainland Premier League match number 184 between Young Africans and Simba, initially scheduled for March 8, 2025, but postponed under controversial circumstances.

The Citizens have further threatened to withdraw from the CRDB Bank Federation Cup final against Singida Black Stars. Yanga’s stance is conditional: they claim they will only take part if they receive outstanding payments, they say they are owed for winning the competition in the 2023/24 season.
