The Malawi senior women’s national football team has secured a friendly against Ghana's Black Queens on June 21.
The Scorchers will face the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON)-bound West Africans at Ziaida Palace Complex in Morocco. The Malawians arrived in North Africa earlier this week for a strength testing match against the Atlas Lionesses. The hosts won 4-2 on Thursday.
Tabitha Chawinga and fellow France-based teammate Rose Kabzere scored for Malawi while Bernadettar Mkandawire’s own goal and other goals from Sakina Ouzraoui, Ibtissam Jraidi and Kenza Chapelle handed the Atlas Lionesses the win.
The two teams faced off to fine-tune for different WAFCON assignments. The meeting against the Black Queens will be the Scorchers' sixth game this year alone ahead of a 2026 WAFCON qualifier against Angola in October.
On the other hand, the friendly presents the Black Queens with an opportunity to warm up for the 2025 WAFCON finals scheduled for Morocco. Ghana will face Mali, holders South Africa's Banyana Banyana and Tanzania at the WAFCON finals. The Black Queens will play South Africa on July 7.
