Ghana national team captain Jordan Ayew has revealed that there are high expectations associated with coming from Ghana’s famous footballing family.
Jordan, André and Ibrahim Ayew’s father, Abedi “Pele” Ayew, won the African Footballer of the Year three consecutive times setting high standards for his three son. André has come closest to Africa’s special award in 2015 when he placed third behind winner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and second placed Yaya Touré with Jordan and Ibrahim missing from that picture.
Jordan and André both followed in their father’s footsteps by playing for his former club, Olympique Marseille, before moving to the Premier League. Jordan, who now plays for Leicester City after joining manager Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side from Crystal Palace, spoke to the club’s website.
“My Dad has done a lot for not only me, but my whole family. It’s not easy to come after your father in a sense of the expectations being so high back home and even in Europe,” he told the club’s website.
“I think me my brother and I have coped really well with it and tried to focus on ourselves and ensure that we had our own journey.”
As captain of the Black Stars, Jordan is confident that both he and Andre still have plenty to offer in the game.
“There’s still more to come from us and hopefully we can give them more moments to enjoy,” he continued.
The 33-year-old Jordan, who has made over 300 Premier League appearances, has played 24 league games this season with four goals under his belt this season with Leicester City struggling under Dutch manager van Nistelrooy.
