Thomas-Asante with brace to propel Coventry City past Portsmouth

Ghana forward Brandon-Thomas Asante was in a superlative form as Coventry City cruised to a strong win on Tuesday against Portsmouth at the Fratton Park.

The winger’s blistering form on the evening culminated in a brace as Coventry City walked away with a 2-1 victory against Portsmouth in their Round 11 clash of the English Championship season.

Thomas-Asante poked home the opener in the 30th minute after Portsmouth failed to clear a corner kick which resulted in a goalmouth scramble. His only goal separated the two sides moving into the half time break.

Brandon-Thomas Asante has scored eight goals in eleven games

Asante made a fine take-off on the right hand side of the field to receive a well cut out pass from Ellis Simms from the far left before blasting the ball past Portsmouth goalkeeper Josef Bursik in the 56th minute mark.

Portsmouth found a consolation through Makenzie Kirk in injury time, but it was too late to save them from defeat with Coventry City running away with all three points courtesy of the 2-1 win. Brandon Thomas-Asante has eight goals, three assists after making 11 appearances for his team in the Championship.

He earned a late call up to replace Inaki Williams for Ghana’s final two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Central African Republic and Comoros but did not make any playing minutes in those two games.
