Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey has indicated that transitioning from Spain to England was the toughest moment of his life.

Partey left La Liga side Atletico Madrid to English Premier League club Arsenal in 2020 in a long-term deal after his £45 million (€50 million) release clause was activated.

Partey, 32, spoke about how difficult it was to deal with the transfer from Spain to England.

“For me, it is the most difficult part of my life, transitioning from Spain, that had become like a home, to London, where you don’t know anyone,” he said in an interview with TV3. “You make new friends, you’re in a new team, you have to understand how the team plays. You have to be a professional.”

“You want to explore the city and at the end of the day, you end up with people you don’t really think about,” he noted. “But I always understand before you go into the best part of your life, you have to go through the dirty part.”

Partey’s contract is due to run out in June, however talks are currently underway regarding a possible extension. Partey played 35 appearances for the Gunners, scoring four goals with two assists last season where they finished second behind Liverpool.
