FCB Nyasa Big Bullets coach Peter Mponda has attributed his team’s 2-1 loss to Civo Service United in Lilongwe on Saturday to a lack of a fight.
John Dambuleni and Moses Banda scored in either half in between Ephraim Kondowe’s strike for Bullets to condemn the visitors to their second league loss of the season.
Reflecting on the result, Mponda felt Bullets were outplayed especially on set-pieces.
“We did not do much to fight for points, unlike Civo who did well to win the match. Our opponents were tactically good. When we equalized, we were too relaxed, and in the end, we conceded from a set-piece. Congratulations to them. They deserved the points” the coach told Bullets media.
The loss for the record 17-time TNM Super League champions opens the door for rivals Mighty Wanderers to overtake them at the top of the 16-member log table. Civo are in 11th place on the log table, 14 points behind Bullets.
However, Mponda insisted that it was too early to press the panic button as the marathon was far from over. Bullets have played 11 games, one more than second-placed Wanderers, who face third-placed Ekhaya United on Sunday in Blantyre.
Bullets have since switched focus to next Sunday’s Airtel Top 8 final against Mponda’s former employers, Silver Strikers. In another game played on Saturday, Songwe Border United lost 1-3 to Kamuzu Barracks FC to remain bottom of the log table.
