TNM Super League: Bullets shoot back to the top

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets dismantled Moyale Barracks FC 3-0 to climb back to the TNM Super League summit on Wednesday, June 25.

Bullets went into the match three days after being deposed from the top of the table by rivals Mighty Wanderers. In response, the record 17-time Malawi champions delivered a near-flawless performance at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Moyale, a military-owned team from the Northern Region, went into the match still coming to terms with a team bus accident while on their way to Blantyre for the match on Tuesday.

The soldiers appeared traumatized on the pitch as they failed to respond to the hosts’ attacks. Attacker Chikumbutso Salima fired Bullets ahead after striker Babatunde Adepoju’s groundwork, winning the ball and laying it back to him to finish coolly into the net in the 11th minute.

Just over half an hour later, Nigerian Adepoju created the second goal, retrieving the ball from a Moyale player before speeding to outmuscle two markers, to then find Sean McBrams, who slotted the ball into the net. The youngster’s second league goal in the professional ranks sealed the opening half.

When play resumed, Bullets added the third goal through Chawanangwa Gumbo in the 78th minute – a gift for the birthday boy.

Elsewhere, holders Silver Strikers defeated Karonga United 3-1 in Lilongwe to compound the misery of the visitors, who also lost 2-1 to Bullets in the Airtel Top semifinal on Saturday.

Still in the capital city, Civo Service United beat Creck Sporting Club 2-0, while up north, Chitipa United floored Songwe Border United 4-0, leaving the rookies still bottom and winless this season.
