TNM Super League: Mighty Wanderers go top, displace Bullets

Mighty Wanderers FC stunned hosts Dedza Dynamos 2-0 on Sunday to go top of the TNM Super League table for the first time this season.

Wanderers leapfrogged FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at the summit, taking a one-point lead after round eight of the 16-member league.

Bullets were not involved in league action on the weekend as they fulfilled an Airtel Top 8 semifinal assignment against Karonga United on Saturday.

Former Dynamos striker Promise Kamwendo returned to haunt the hosts with the opening goal in the seventh minute at Dedza Stadium, 80km from the capital city, Lilongwe.

Winger Isaac Kaliyati completed Wanderers’ victory, hitting their second goal in the 56th minute to deflate Alex Ngwira’s side.

Elsewhere, rookies Ekhaya FC’s dream start to life in the top-flight league continued with a 3-1 away victory over Ekwendeni Hammers FC on Sunday.

Andrew Lameck put Enos Chatama’s outfit ahead with a seventh-minute strike, before Wongani Kaponya and Clever Chikwata’s 30th and 47th-minute goals sealed the maximum points. The hosts pulled one back through Samson Olatubosun in the 18th minute.

Ekhaya sit third, three points behind leaders Wanderers. Elsewhere, Blue Eagles eased to a 2-1 win over struggling MAFCO FC to occupy fourth place.
