Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers, Malawi’s representatives in the 2025-2026 CAF interclub competitions, shared the spoils with a 2-2
TNM Super League draw in Lilongwe on Saturday.
Wanderers exited the CAF Confederation Cup after losing 7-6 on post-match penalties to Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy while Yanga SC dumped Strikers out of the Champions League with a 2-1 aggregate score in the second preliminary round played in October.
Following the unfavorable results in the continental competitions, both teams retreated back to chase domestic silverware.
The Lilongwe giants atoned for their Champions League misery after beating Wanderers 5-4 on post-match penalties to win the FDH Cup two weeks ago. Therefore, Saturday’s meeting at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe presented the Nomads a chance to avenge for the cup defeat to the Bankers.
However, Wanderers surrendered the lead twice to waste the chance to widen the gap from rivals FCB Nyasa Bullets after settlingfor a two-all draw with Strikers on Sunday.
All seemed well when defender Peter Cholopi put the Blantyre giants ahead early in the first half.
However, striker Binwell Katinji fired Peter Mgangira’s lads back with a 40th minute equaliser.
The seasoned forward controlled the ball with his left in between two blue defenders them fired hard and low past Wanderers keeper Dalitso Khungwa with his right. Both teams retreated to the dressing room at one-all.
Come the second half, striker Muhammad Sulumba headed Wanderers back in the lead in the 53rd minute only for Katinji to level matters from the penalty spot late in the game.
Bob Mpinganjira’s team remain two points clear of second-placed Bullets at the summit of the 16-member log table. Bullets, who have played one game more than Wanderers, can go top if they beat Civil Service United on Sunday.
For now, the Nomads remain unbeaten in the league after 23 games the only concern being their too many seven draws.
