Togo head coach Nibombe Dare says the team’s focus remains on finishing the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers on a high note. The Hawks, as they are nicknamed, sit fourth in Group B and are no longer in contention for World Cup qualification.
Togo will host second-placed DR Congo on October 10 before traveling to Juba to face South Sudan on October 13 in their final qualifying encounter. According to Togo Foot, coach Dare stated that the team’s aim is to win both matches and end the campaign positively.
“The only thing that matters to us is confidence, so we are playing both games to win them. We need the points to improve our FIFA ranking, so we will play both games to the fullest,” Dare said.
With Togo officially out of the World Cup race, Dare emphasized the importance of finishing strong. “We must not assume that the match has no stakes. These countries will come to defend their colors, and these are matches we will approach with great seriousness,” he added.
Togo currently sit fourth with seven points, five points behind third-placed Sudan.
