Toko Ekambi extends Saudi stay with Al Fateh

Karl Toko Ekambi is set for a third season in the Saudi Pro League after Al Fateh announced the acquisition of the former Cameroon national team forward on Wednesday evening.

The 32-year-old veteran signed on until the end of the ongoing 2025-26 campaign for the club based in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province after being released by Al Ettifaq. Toko Ekambi joins a large African contingent at the club that includes star players like Algerian playmaker Soufiane Bendebka and Moroccan forward Mourad Batna.

Al Fateh finished tenth in the Saudi Pro League at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season after a remarkable second half turnaround overseen by former Zamalek coach José Gomes. The Portuguese coach joined around the new year and endured a humiliating 0-9 defeat to Al Hilal before Fateh won ten of their final nineteen games to escape the drop zone.

Toko Ekambi joins after his production waned last season. He only managed a single goal in 24 league appearances for Ettifaq with a couple of goals in the King Cup. Over two seasons in the Pro League, he produced 12 goals in 53 appearances with Ettifaq and Abha Club.

The former Olympique Lyonnais and Villarreal star’s drop in production saw him overlooked for the Cameroon national team since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations played in January 2024. His best moments with the Indomitable Lions came at the 2021 AFCON hosted by Cameroon, where he only trailed teammate Vincent Aboubakar with five goals at the tournament for the third place finishers.

Al Fateh lost their Saudi Pro League opener on August 30 to Al Fayha by a 1-2 score at home. They will next face reigning champions Al Ittihad away from home on Friday.
