Toko Ekambi scores match winner for Al Fateh in Saudi King’s Cup

Karl Toko Ekambi’s first start for Saudi club Al Fateh ended with a goal as the Saudi Pro League side advanced in the King’s Cup on Wednesday.

The Cameroonian forward finished from close range in the second half to give Al Fateh the edge over second tier side Al Jabalain in a 2-1 victory at the Prince Abdulaziz bin Musa’ed Sports City Stadium. Soufiane Bendebka got on the end of a cross and his shot was kicked away by Jabalain goalkeeper Mohammed Al Waked right to Toko Ekambi who scored with ease.

Hosts Al Jabalain got off to a strong start, opening the scoring on the half hour mark through French forward Cheikh Touré. However, Fateh responded just before halftime with a goal from Argentine forward Matías Vargas.

The visitors took control from that moment on and Toko Ekambi put Fateh up for good soon after the hour mark. The former Indomitable Lions attacker joined Fateh earlier this month, making his debut as a halftime substitute last Saturday in a 0-0 Saudi Pro League draw with Al Hazem.

Fateh advance to the Round of 16 in Saudi Arabia’s top domestic cup competition, where they await the draw to determine their next opponent. Fateh, who did well to fight off relegation from the Saudi top flight last season, have yet to win through three league matches with two defeats followed by Saturday’s scoreless draw with Al Hazem.
