Nigeria striker Tolu Arokodare’s performance continues to soar with glimpses of why he needs more playing time under Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle.
The 24-year-old was on the scoresheet Sunday for club side Genk in their 4-1 victory at Gent in Matchday nine of the Championship stage.
Arokodare found the back of the net on the 88th minute after joining the fray in the second half of the game marking his 21st goal of the season in all competitions.
His late strike however shot him into the top of the scorers chart with 17 goals in regular season, four in the championship play-offs, one above Adriano Bertaccini of St.Truiden, who scored 16 goals in the regular season and five in the playoffs
Tolu Arokodare has said he is delighted he is back as joint top scorer in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.
“It’s nice to be top scorer again,” Tolu told DAZN. "I knew I wouldn’t start (the game). Of course, we have other players who deserve to play minutes in the play-offs, so I could understand that choice."
“We were strong. We gave everything offensively, and that is reflected in the result. It was important to get this victory, especially after such a long period without a win. This will give us extra motivation to win the last home game as well. Of course there is still disappointment about not winning the title, but we do want to end the season in style,” he said.
Arokodare has gathered 39 matches in all competitions, registering five assists in addition to his strong goal total this season.
