Tottenham Hotspur coach Thomas Frank has highlighted Senegalese star Pape Matar Sarr’s impact after he scored a brace on Saturday.
The attacker’s goals earned Spurs a two-all draw against Wycombe FC before Frank’s side played out to a goalless draw against Luton City FC in the second match of the day.
The former Brentford FC boss said he was happy with his players’ fitness levels going into the 2025-2026 Premier League season. Spurs featured new signing Mohammed Kudus from Ghana.
Frank was particularly impressed with what he called Sarr’s good goals. Nonetheless, the coach felt Spurs should have scored more goals against Wycombe looking at the many chances the Premier League team created.
“Let’s start with the Wycombe game, positives, I felt the high pressure and regaining of the ball was very successful in many ways throughout the game. We regained it I don’t know how many times, but we created six, seven very dangerous situations where we should have done even more and scored a good second goal through Pape,” the coach said.
“Also, in the first minutes, Wycombe’s runs in behind were good, so we were really focused on that. The big focus is that we defended well, and we gave away two goals we shouldn’t have given away against Wycombe, and scored two good goals from Pape, who is another positive in that game.”
The 22-year-old etched his name in world football folklore after playing an instrumental role in Spurs’ UEFA Europa League title glory on May 21, 2025, following a 1-0 win over Manchester United.
Sarr became the first Senegalese to win the Europa League championship.
The former provided an assist from which Brennan Johnson guided the ball past Cameroonian Andre Onana into the net, albeit via the faintest of deflections off a United defender in the 42nd minute.
