A fan for Congolese giants TP Mazembe was reportedly stoned to death during Sunday’s Linafoot Ligue 1 match against FC Saint-Eloi Lupopo.

The Ravens confirmed via a statement that the incident happened during the Lushois Derby at the Stade Frédéric Kibassa-Maliba in Lubumbashi.

“TPM expresses its deep sorrow following the death of one of its supporters, which occurred on Sunday, November 2, at the Stade Frédéric Kibassa-Maliba. He was hit on the head by a projectile thrown from the stands,” the statement reads.

“The victim, urgently taken to the stadium’s medical-sports centre, succumbed to his injuries before being transferred to the morgue of the Kenya Hospital Centre, pending full identification by his family and the competent authorities.

TP Mazembe calls for investigations on the incident

Mazembe, who lost the match 2-1 to the Lubumbashi rivals, have since condemned the incident while calling for investigations on the incident.

“TPM strongly condemns this act of violence, which goes against the values of sport, and calls on the competent authorities to shed full light on this tragedy,” the statement adds.

“President Moïse KATUMBI, the staff, and the players extend their heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and to the entire community of supporters.”

Cameroonian forward Ravel Djoumekou and Jonathan Mukonzi’s goals cancelled out a free kick from Mazembe’s Lise Mtumba early in the second half for Lupopo to make it back-to-back Ligue 1 wins.
