One thing is clear in the early stages of the Championship stage of the Congolese top flight Linafoot…it will not be an easy journey for defending champions TP Mazembe.
The Ravens got off to a poor start on Wednesday, falling to a difficult opponent in the form of Aigles du Congo at the Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa. However, credit must be given to Les Aigles and forward Kevine Bileko who scored a magnificient goal (video above) in the 12th minute from a long punt by Aigles goalkeeper Joël Basadilla.
After Kikwama Mujinga doubled Aigles’ lead less than ten minutes later, Mazembe were doomed chase the match. They managed to claw a goal back early in the second half but Bileko struck again in the final twenty minutes to confirm victory for Aigles and Mazembe’s first defeat in three matches.
Aigles du Congo are perfect through their three matches along with AS Maniema Union, who defeated FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo 1-0. After attempting to pressure Maniema with a free kick, Les Cheminots fell victim to a counter-attack when James Mboma took advantage of a mistake to move in on goal and finish early in the second half. The goal prompted Maniema boss Papy Kimoto to run down and celebrate with Mboma and his teammates.
In other matches from Wednesday, AC Rangers defeated FC Tanganyika 3-1. CS Don Bosco took down AS Simba in the other match played. On Tuesday, AS Vita Club earned their first points of the second stage with a 1-0 result over SM Sanga Balende (highlights below).
