TP Mazembe goalkeeper Aliou Badara Faty is likely to miss the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals after suffering a left knee injury.
The Congolese football giants confirmed that further diagnosis on the player’s injury, suffered on May 25, 2025, suggests he could be out for many months.
“During the last visit to Kinshasa, goalkeeper Aliou Badara Faty suffered a left knee injury. It occurred during training the day before the match against AC Rangers on May 25,” Mazembe’s statement reads.
“According to the tests carried out first in Kinshasa, then in Lubumbashi, and finally assessed by specialist doctors, the goalkeeper has a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and a meniscus injury, which will require surgery in the coming days.
“This injury will result in the goalkeeper being sidelined for several months. The management, coaching staff, and support staff are sending their full support to the player and will support him in his speedy recovery.”
Faty is a reliable keeper for Mazembe as they push for glory in the promotion play-offs. He is a reliable member of the Senegal national team. He was part of the squad that won the 2021 AFCON title, serving as a fourth-choice keeper.
