Trabelsi urges Tunisia to fight for survival against Qatar

Tunisia coach Sami Trabelsi says his charges will have a last shot at progressing from the group stage when they face hosts Qatar in the FIFA Arab Cup on Sunday evening (7PM SAST).

The Eagles of Carthage are having a difficult Arab Cup outing, with only a single point from two games going into the last group game.

Palestine and Syria are in pole position to qualify from Group A, but Tunisia can still progress. Trabelsi says the coaching staff are trying hard to build the confidence of the players ahead of the crucial clash.

“The match represents the last chance to qualify for the next round. We must win to continue our journey. We have worked to motivate the players so that they deliver the best possible performance, and we will give everything to stay in the competition,” said the former Tunisian international.

Trabelsi Confirms ‘Last Chance’ for Tunisia to Escape Arab Cup Group Stage

A defeat at the hands of Syria and a draw against Palestine have put Tunisia on the brink of a disappointing Arab Cup campaign. Ismael Gharbi will not be available for Tunisia later today. Tunisia were finalists during the last edition of the Arab Cup, where they lost to Algeria. A lack of goal-scoring ability and defensive flaws have been the highlights of this Tunisian side.

Trabelsi will be hoping for a positive outing against Qatar and for either Palestine or Syria to win their battle. A draw between the two group leaders will end Tunisia’s aspirations to qualify from the group stage.
