Egypt star Trezeguet: “We are not seeking revenge against Senegal”

Egypt international Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” has said that the Pharaohs are prepared to achieve their objective of making Egyptian people happy, indicating that the upcoming clash against Senegal is not about revenge.

Egypt are set to face Senegal today, Wednesday at 5:00 PM GMT, in the semi-finals of Africa Cup of Nations 2025, currently being held in Morocco.

Speaking during the pre-match press conference, Trezeguet said:
“Senegal are a big team and everyone knows that, but everyone also knows who Egypt are. In recent times, we have achieved good results with the current coaching staff.”

He added:
“We are aiming to make the Egyptian people happy, and we have prepared very well to achieve this goal.”

Trezeguet spoke about past encounters with Senegal, saying:
“I was part of the team that lost twice to Senegal on penalties, but now we are a different team. We have many strong men who are giving everything they have to win and prove that they deserve to wear the national team shirt.”

Senegal defeated Egypt in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and later in the final of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations, the last two meetings between the two sides.

The Egypt winger continued:
“We are not seeking revenge against Senegal. This is simply a football match. From the moment we arrived here, our goal has been to win the title, regardless of the opponent.”

He concluded by praising his captain:
“For me, Mohamed Salah is the best player in the world. He plays roles for us that we see for the first time, and he has shown that he truly wants to win this tournament.”
