“Next Chapter! Happy to be here and part of the Al Ahli Sports Club family!” With those words, former Nigerian national team captain William Troost-Ekong confirmed his arrival at Qatari outfit Al Ahli SC, signaling the start of a fresh mission in the Qatar Stars League (QSL).
The veteran defender took to social media to express his excitement shortly after “The Brigadiers” officially unveiled him on Tuesday. The club welcomed their new defensive pillar with a high-energy announcement video, stating: “He’s here, he’s ready. Welcome to the club, William. Let’s make history together.”

The 32-year-old centre-back has committed his future to the Doha-based club until June 2028, signing a lucrative two-year deal. In a move that highlights his expected influence in the dressing room, Troost-Ekong has been assigned his trademark number five jersey.
The Super Eagles legend makes the switch from Saudi Pro League side Al-Kholood, where he was a mainstay in the backline, racking up 49 appearances and chipping in with two goals during his eighteen-month stay in the Kingdom.
Troost-Ekong arrives at a critical juncture for Younes Ali’s men. Al Ahli currently finds themselves in a precarious ninth position on the QSL table. With 15 points to their name, they sit just four points clear of the relegation zone, and the acquisition of a seasoned international is seen as a major statement of intent to climb the standings.
The Nigerian’s leadership and aerial prowess are expected to be the “X-factor” as the club looks to solidify a defense that has struggled for consistency this season.
Fans won’t have to wait long to see the new signing in action. Troost-Ekong is expected to be thrust straight into the starting XI as Al Ahli prepares for a vital league clash against Qatar SC on Saturday, January 31.
