Nigeria defender William Troost-Ekong has stressed the importance of their 2026 World Cup qualifying fixture against Rwanda at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday.
The Super Eagles under Malian coach Eric Chelle are currently sitting fourth in Group C with seven points, six less than table leaders South Africa, who have amassed 13.
”The players are focused, we are really prepared for the game on Saturday and I want to thank them for their support, I want to ask them to continue to encourage us and be praying for us,” Troost-Ekong told reporters.
“It’s going to be an important set of games for us starting on Saturday, we know the gravity of this game (against Rwanda), and we are going to be focused on preparations which will be left for us.”
Speaking of the game, Bright Osayi-Samuel said: “It’s a very important game, one of our most important games in the national team. We know how difficult it can be, but I have confidence in our squad, and our coach. I ultimately believe that we will get a good result.”
After playing against Rwanda, Nigeria will next face South Africa.
