Already qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Tunisia showed no signs of slowing down as they cruised to a commanding 6–0 victory over Sao Tome and Principe in the ninth round of African qualifiers.
Although the match was a mere formality for the Carthage Eagles, who had already secured their ticket to the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, Hatem Trabelsi’s men delivered a dominant performance to delight the home fans.
Firas Chaouat broke the deadlock in the 36th minute before Elias Saad doubled Tunisia’s advantage three minutes later. Saad struck again in the 43rd minute to complete his brace and send Tunisia into halftime with a comfortable 3–0 lead.
Just two minutes into the second half, Ismaïl Gharbi added a fourth goal with a composed finish. Midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane then converted a penalty in the 68th minute and capped off the night with his second goal in the 90th minute, sealing a 6–0 rout.
With this emphatic win, Tunisia strengthened their lead at the top of Group H, moving up to 25 points — ten clear of second-placed Namibia. Meanwhile, Sao Tome remain bottom of the group without a single point after nine consecutive defeats.
