Tunisia: Etoile win it in stoppage time; Club Africain held

Etoile du Sahel continued to show signs of recovery on Saturday in the Tunisia Ligue 1 Professionnelle after a disastrous start to the 2025-26 season, scoring twice in second half stoppage time to secure a 2-0 victory over ES Metlaoui.

Mohamed Chaabani headed in a corner kick to give hosts Etoile the breakthrough against 10-man ESM before Maher Ben Seghaier added another goal to complete a second consecutive victory for ESS in league play.

ESS are finding their form with two victories since last Sunday’s shock elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup at the hands of Kenyan club Nairobi United. Last season’s third place finishers move into a top-10 position with the result.

Club Africain moved into top spot for now but will be disappointed with a 1-1 result at home against relegation candidates AS Soliman. Former TP Mazembe star Phillippe Kinzumbi came off the bench to save a point for CA with an equalizer deep into stoppage time after visitors Soliman had a player sent off in the second half.

Elsewhere on Saturday, US Monastir also had to find a late goal to draw hosts AS Gabes while US Ben Guerdane defeated JS Kairouan 2-0.

Club Africain are the leaders by one point over Stade Tunisien and two points clear of reigning champions Espérance Tunis. Both ST and EST will be in action on Sunday where they are favorites to overtake the current leaders.
