The Tunisia Ligue 1 Professionnelle table remains tight as the sixth matchday approached its conclusion on Wednesday with wins for Club Africain, CS Sfaxien and US Monastir.
Last season’s Ligue 1 top scorer, Firas Chaouat, made it four goals from his first six matches with Club Africain in a strong 3-0 victory at JS Omrane. Former TP Mazembe star Phillippe Kinzumbi opened the scoring with a finish into the top corner in the 10th minute before Chaouat doubled the advantage with his perfectly placed header before halftime. Libyan defender Ali Youssef added one more goal late on.
CA leaped past Tunis rivals Esperance into third place, level on thirteen points with second placed ES Zarzis. ESZ fell at home by a 0-1 score to last season’s runners-up US Monastir, who won courtesy of a goal by Moez Haj Ali just before halftime.
USM are struggling to create goals but still remain undefeated so far in league play with two victories and four draws, leaving them a point behind reigning champions Esperance in fifth position.
CA Bizertin and CS Sfaxien were the other winners from Wednesday. CAB defeated relegation candidates AS Gabes while CSS staged a late comeback with two goals from Hichem Baccar in the final twenty minutes to defeat US Ben Guerdane. With three goals this season, Baccar is one goal behind co-leading scorers Chaouat and ES Zarzis’ Moemen Rahmani.
