French forward Florian Danho enjoyed a dream debut for Esperance as the Tunisia Ligue 1 Professionnelle champions overcame Olympique Beja on Wednesday.
The arrival from Danish club Randers FC came off the bench to finish off a 2-0 victory for Taraji, who stretched their winning streak to three matches in all competitions. Chiheb Jebali opened the scoring inside ten minutes from a cross by Houssem Tka to complete a stellar team movement.
Esperance remain three points back of league leaders Stade Tunisien, who won at home 1-0 against AS Marsa courtesy of an early goal from Aziz Saihi. ST remain undefeated through seven matches following the result, including a bold statement earlier this month when they won against Esperance to establish themselves as potential contenders for the title. They currently lead EST by three points and second place ES Zarzis by one point.
It as a successful day for Tunisia’s top clubs. US Monastir, runners-up last season, edged CA Bizertin 1-0 despite failing to convert a penalty kick in the first half. Promising Malian forward Ibrahim Gadiaga, making his debut, scored the match winner in the second half.
Etoile du Sahel had no issues against hosts AS Soliman, scoring early and going on to secure a 2-0 victory. Another young West African forward, Senegal’s Moussa Senghor, scored his second goal of the season inside five minutes before the hosts were reduced to ten players following a 10th minute red card. Raki Aouani put Etoile out of reach with his goal in the second half.
