Tunisia to face co-host in World Cup tune up

The Tunisia national team will face one of the 2026 World Cup co-hosts in a pre-tournament friendly when the Eagles of Carthage clash with Canada.

Prominent Canadian sports outlet TSN reported the news on Monday, indicating that an announcement is forthcoming from the Canadian Soccer Association a.k.a. Soccer Canada. Based on the report, the North African team will also face Haiti during the March FIFA window.

They will welcome the opportunity to gain experience on North American soil even if none of their World Cup fixtures will take place in Canada. The Eagles will take part in Group F, where they will face a qualifying playoff winner from the UEFA region (Ukraine, Poland, Albania or Sweden) and Japan in Mexico before traveling to the USA to clash with the Netherlands in their group stage finale.

After a disappointing Round of 16 finish at the just-completed 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Tunisia have plenty of work to do to prepare for their moment on the biggest stage in world football. Coach Sami Trabelsi was dismissed, with former France national team player Sabri Lamouchi taking the reins.

They breezed through an easy qualifying group to reach their third consecutive World Cup finals but excitement is waning in the team’s fanbase.

A group stage exit at the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup at the end of the year was followed by their disappointing performances at the Africa Cup of Nations, leaving supporters pessimistic about their chances against high-level opponents at the world showcase.
