Tunisia prospect Rayan Elloumi scores in Vancouver Whitecaps victory

Potential Tunisia national team prospect Rayan Elloumi continued to impress in Major League Soccer on Sunday evening with his second goal of the season in Vancouver Whitecaps’ 4-1 victory over San Jose Earthquakes.

The 18-year-old got on the end of Sebastian Berhalter’s free kick service to finish at the far post, opening the scoring in a dominant victory for the Canadian club. German legend Thomas Muller doubled the advantage for Whitecaps early in the second half before Berhalter scored twice for a win that was never in doubt.

Vancouver remain strong contenders to finish as the top side in the Western Conference, currently tied on 60 points with San Diego FC with a game in hand. Elloumi also got the start up top earlier this week when Vancouver captured the Canadian Championship, qualifying the club for the CONCACAF Champions League as the winners of Canada’s domestic cup competition.

More on Rayan Elloumi’s rise

Born in the Canadian province of Alberta, Elloumi has been called into the Canada U-18 national team but it appears that he has switched his allegiance to Tunisia. The Tunisian Football Federation confirmed his interest by welcoming Elloumi to the national team system at the end of September.

Elloumi was not called into the senior team for upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying matches but his rise in Major League Soccer makes him a player to watch for both future senior team and youth national team opportunities. The young forward is already showing promising instincts in the penalty area and a tendency to put himself in the right places, something that will continue to make him a potential candidate for a Tunisia team that has struggled with finding a consistent goal scorer.

After making his first appearances last season for Vancouver Whitecaps 2 in the MLS Next Pro league for its clubs’ reserve teams, Elloumi made a breakthrough with 11 goals and 6 assists in 18 matches for Whitecaps 2 this season before being promoted to the first team.

Vancouver have two matches remaining in the MLS regular season and their qualification for the MLS Cup Playoffs is secure. They next face Orlando City away from home on Saturday.
